Points:
- We can’t serve a supernatural God and not believe in His intervention.
- As a believer you are not exempt from challenges and trouble but you are guaranteed that God will be there with you through the challenges.
- Prayer should never lack passion
- One of the things us humans are good at doing, is fixing or attaching labels to people.
- Grace will always trump judgement – God is more concerned about delivering that condemning
- Jesus was invited to fellowship with them even though he was not liked.
- The woman approached Jesus with certainty and purpose. Getting the help you need may mean breaking protocol.
- She didn’t come for a miracle; she came because she wanted an encounter with Him
- It is difficult to get help with you don’t believe you are in need of it.
- Consider the woman’s disposition over her reputation:
- She dared to step into a space where she knew she was not wanted.
- She knew she needed help
- She was determined to get it.
- She ignored the perceptions of others
- She was courageous, brave and demonstrated a posture of humility.
- Sometimes only one party is being admonished when two parties have interacted
- Sometimes we tend to believe what others say and not who we are in Jesus and the benefits that come with that.
- Worship is not saying the right thing but having the right heart.
- Character formation is revealed by your actions
- Two things that characterise the believing community:
- Love God
- Love neighbour
- You cannot love God and simultaneously not get along with people
- Sometimes religion trumps relationship (it shouldn’t)
- None of us bought our freedom from anyone, so nobody has the right to determine whether you are saved or not. Salvation is a personal relationship with Jesus.
- Christians must bear fruit and exemplify Christ.
- Your character speaks louder than your words
- Recap points:
- Getting the help you need may mean breaking protocol
- Character formation is revealed by your actions
- It is difficult to get help when you don’t believe you need it
- Reflection: If you were in the house with Jesus and the woman, which one of the personalities would you have been?
- The woman?
- The onlookers?
- Jesus?
- Your character speaks louder than your words
