Points:
- What is tithe?
- Tithe – to relinquish 1/10 of your personal income either mandatory or voluntarily
- The literal translation is “tenth”
- Why do people tithe/give?
- To show appreciation because of who God is and what He has done in their lives (Genesis 28:20-22)
- Because our resources belong to the Lord (Lev. 27:30)
- Everything we earn is because of God, and without Him we couldn’t earn.
- Surrendering your resources runs parallel to your faith in God.
- To take care of the poor (Deut 14:28)
- Your giving should impact your community
- Your giving should not be confined to the offering bag!
- If you put a limit on your giving, you are also putting a limit on God!
- Out of compulsion (2 Cor 9:7)
- …but God loves a cheerful giver
- You shouldn’t think that you have to give in order to get a blessing from God. God loves us regardless of our giving.
- Who do/should we give/tithe to?
- Give to God because of who He is but also give to the government because they manage the society which you are a part of (Matthew 22:16-21)
- Recap points:
- We should give 1/10 of our income to the Lord
- Don’t give to God out of compulsion, but give freely and cheerfully
- Are we surrendering our resources (willingly and cheerfully) to God?
- Have you been giving what you think God truly deserves?
