Points:

  • The angel announced the good news that a baby was born and it was the Christ
    • Christ means anointed one or Saviour
    • The saviour was born for us
    • The news is still valid today
  • What is He saving us from?
    • Every human being has a sin problem, and these sins separate us from our Holy God
    • He came to save us from our sins – Matt 1:21
  • The Good Gift – Salvation (Luke 2:14)
    • In gift giving there is a giver, a recipient and often a reason behind the gift giving.
    • God promised that man can be saved and live free of the penalty and certainty of death and the fear of what comes after it. That gift however is only available to who accept it.
      • NB: The promise is to all but the gift is only available to those who accept it.
    • God wants to give us all the gift but there are many who only seem to want the good news.
    • We can’t earn it, we will never deserve it but God wants to give it! (Eph 2:8-9)
  • God’s gift had one motivation – LOVE
    • What should your response be? The return it! Love God! (John 14:23-24)
  • Recap points:
    • God sent His son as a saviour for us.
    • Jesus was sent to save us from our sins
    • The news of Jesus’ coming is good news.
    • The promise of salvation is for all, but the gift is only available to those who accept it
    • We can’t earn the gift and we don’t deserve it but God wants to give us anyway
    • His only motivation is love and we should love Him in return
    • What should our response to God’s love be? Loving Him in return!
