Points:
- The passage speaks to what it means to worship God and ultimately what it means to live for God.
- Deut. 10:11 – God clearly expresses what He promises to us.
- God is faithful to keep His promises to us. It is sure and secure. We should keep our promises to God
- There are things God expects us to do if we are going to walk into the things He has promised us.
- Fear the Lord Your God:
- Showing reverence to God; recognising who God is and respecting Him
- Being afraid of God’s consequences for our actions
- God doesn’t want us to be afraid of Him. God wants our reverence, our faithfulness and love and our dedication to serve Him. These are important to pure worship.
- Love the Lord Your God:
- How do we demonstrate our Love for God?
- Loving our brothers and sisters – Not just the ones we are comfortable with but also the one who cause us pain and do us harm.
- How do we demonstrate our Love for God?
- Serve the Lord Your God with all your heart and soul:
- Serving the Lord means being submissive to Him
- Submissive: putting your desires and feelings on the back burner while putting God’s agenda on the forefront.
- Serving the lord means letting God be the potter and allowing hIm to mold us.
- Service in the kingdom is not for people but to bring glory and honour to God
- How can we say we re worshipping God when we aren’t showing reverence to him?
- How can we say we are worshipping God when we don’t love our brothers and sisters?
- How can we say we are worshipping God when we are not being submissive to God?
- Reverence to God, loving God and serving God is not for other people. It is for your good! It is to benefit you! (vs 13)
- It will not always feel good and it is supposed to be challenging, however it is for your benefit
