Points:

  • David was considered a “good person”
  • David was King over Israel
  • David was handpicked by God
  • David was loved by God
  • Can such a good person encounter and experience bad things?

There were three problems:

  • Problem #1: All the Kings and men went to war and David stayed home
  • Problem #2: The woman that David laid with was not his wife
  • Problem #3: The woman (who belonged to someone else) was now pregnant (for David)

David then had some bad things happening in His life as a result of these actions:

  • The woman was pregnant (because of David’s actions)
  • Uriah was dead (because of David’s actions)
  • David was facing judgement from God (due to his actions)

  • Good people” can face temptations and problems because they are human and have human tendencies
    • We are good not of our own will or actions. We are “good” because of the spirit of the Lord.
    • We must submit our will and actions to the spirit of God
  • “Good people” sometimes end up distracted from their purpose. (2 Sam 11:1)
    • David chose not to carry out the purpose of God, but he chose to do opposite of what God called him to do.
  • “Good people” sometimes allow disobedience to creep in.
  • “Good people” are sometimes selfish
  • God can use our worst failures to bring out something good (2 Sam 12:24-25)
    • God does not act and think like man, He will use anything and anyone to give Him glory and carry out His purpose.
  • Reflection points:
    • What is your posture towards God?
    • Do we take God for granted?
    • Do we do what we want with no remorse?
  • Supporting Texts:
    • 2 Samuel 12:24-25
