Date: September 29, 2024
Theme: “Submission to Jesus – Forgiveness and Showing Mercy”

Scripture Reading: 2 Samuel 9
Messenger: Rev. Darren McKoy

Points:

  • David showed forgiveness and mercy – 2 Samuel 9:1
    • In the past Saul (previous King) wanted to kill David. His son Jonathon befriended David. The custom dictated that David should have sought out the entire lineage of Saul to kill them.
  • Instead of holding on to past hurts, animosity and past grudges, why don’t we let get for the sake of God?
  • Forgiveness involves:
    • Acknowledging that you were wronged
    • Letting go of the pain
    • Showing love and kindness to the person who wronged you
  • Forgiveness takes more than you. It takes the power and presence of God
  • If the person who wronged you does not come to you, you must go to them!
  • Do you have any tension in your personal life? Are you walking around with any unresolved pain or hurt because of what someone did to you?
  • If you know you hurt someone or someone hurt you – call them!
  • Recap points:
    • Forgiveness takes more than just you
    • Forgiveness is an action which includes acknowledgement, letting go and showing kindness
    • You must go to the person who has wronged you even if they don’t come to you to apologise
    • You have to let go of past hurts and grudges for the sake of Christ!
    • Forgiveness is one of the hallmarks of our Christian walk
    • True fellowship will develop when there is forgiveness and mercy.
